I didn’t have any weddings in January so I was expecting to have a quiet month catching up with admin tasks and tidying up my office at home. While I did manage to get those things done, I also ended up meeting TWENTY couples who were looking for a celebrant for their forthcoming weddings! I don’t think February will be any less busy as I’m about to meet my SIXTH couple of this month (and we’re only at the 5th of February 😊).
Anyway, over two of the past three weekends I’ve also enjoyed chatting with prospective couples at two different Wedding Fairs. The first was in the stunning Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, where myself and fellow celebrants, Claire Watt, Ali Kerr and Marilyn Jackson were all on hand at the Humanist Society Scotland stand to chat all things wedding.
Then yesterday I teamed up with Marilyn again, this time on my own doorstep at the Melville Castle Wedding Fair. Again, it was lovely chatting with couples about options for their upcoming weddings and explaining about who HSS are and what we do.
In the quieter moments we also enjoyed a good natter with fellow exhibitors Steven Cameron from Cameron Photography (www.cameronphotography.co.uk), and the brilliantly talented Caricaturist Edd Travers (www.eddsheadcaricatures.co.uk), who attends weddings to draw caricatures for guests during the reception. He even offered to draw one of me – which is the cracking picture I’ve included at the top of this post! How fab is that?
This week has me meeting more couples, conducting a funeral and then doing my first wedding of 2024 – on the beach at St Andrews, no less! Keep everything crossed for reasonable weather on Friday!
